This may go even further and become a ranking signal in the future: ” If installed, the extension also sends blocked site information to Google, and we will study the resulting feedback and explore using it as a potential ranking signal for our search results.”, said Matt Cutts when the Chrome extension was released. Moreover, when the non-dependent Chrome version of the feature was released, Google declared: “While we’re not currently using the domains people block as a signal in ranking, we’ll look at the data and see whether it would be useful as we continue to evaluate and improve our search results in the future.” However, using this feature as a ranking signal could backfire in the long run, as there might be and probably will be people who will abuse this power and block their competitors’ websites or just block websites out of spite. But this is up to Google and no one will probably ever know if this turns out to be among the ranking signals or not.
